THE INSTITUTE

The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) is a public management institute, established under Act 647 of 2003. It is mandated to organize the training of: both staff and members of the regional coordinating councils, district assemblies and other lower local government units to enhance the managerial, administrative, financial and operational efficiency of organs and units of local government.  

The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) invites applications from qualified persons for employment as Accounting Assistant

 ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

Applicant must hold a good first degree in Accounting or equivalent qualification. Membership to a Professional Body (ACCA/ICA) is an added advantage. Applicant must also be Computer Literate and must have completed his/her national service.

JOB SUMMARY

Accounting Assistant: Responsible for assisting the Accountant of Tamale Campus to implement approved policies for management of the funds and loan facilities of the Campus, preparation of the Campus’ annual budget estimates and statement of assets and liabilities, as well as keeping books of account and proper records on the financial affairs of Accra Campus.

 TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

 

·         Successful candidates shall be appointed into full-time position after probation.

·         Duty posts is the Tamale Campus.

·         Remuneration is attractive

Orientation Programme for first time MMDCEs

ILGS has began the second phase of the orientation programme for first time MMDCEs across the country from Thursday 28 to Friday 29th October 2021. The two day programme will see various presentations on Introduction to Public Administration and Structure of Ghana's Local Government System, facilitated by Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboagye, former Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies.

Confirmed MMDCEs undergo orientation with charge to improve on IGF, October 26 2021, Accra.

President Akufo-Addo, says he will not hesitate to dismiss any Municipal Metropolitan  or District Chief Executive, (MMDCES), who does not live up to expectation. The President gave the warning at an orientation for the new MMDCEs in Accra. He assured them of the timely release of the District Assemblies Common Fund and advised them to improve the Internally Generated Funds, IGF and use them judiciously. Out of the 261 nominees, 250 have been approved by the Assemblies. 11 more nominees are yet to be approved.

Local Government Minister Swears in ILGS Governing Council

The Minster of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development inaugurated the governing board of the Institute of Local Government Studies in Accra. The governing council has Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa as the Chairman.

The rest of the members of the council as constituted include Dr. Nicholas Awortwi, the Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies, Mr. Samuel Seth Passah representing the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dr. Nana Kodjo Mensah-Abrampa representing the National Development Planning Commission, Mr. Kokro Amankwa from the National Association of Local Government Authorities in Ghana.

The rest include; Mrs. Evelyn Arthtur from the Public Service Commission, Hon. Dr. Stephen Nana Ato Arthur from the Local Government Service, Professor Imoro Braimah representing Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Hon. Akwasi Darko Boateng, Mad. Agnes Talata Chiravira and Rev. Mrs. Eva Asare Bediako as government apppointees.

ILGS/OHLGS/GSCSP Organises a Capacity Building Workshop on Social Accountability

The 5-Day customized certificate course on social protection is intended to help participants deepen their understanding of gender, vulnerability and social protection issues as well as analyze , reflect and propose innovative strategies to address emerging challenges, as well as discuss the emerging social protection system and enhancing competences of participants in their roles and responsibilities.

Some of the specific objectives of the training programme is to define and explain social social protection instruments and its application in programmes and projects, increase institutional capacity and knowledge base to better design , manage and monitor social protection systems, appreciate the expectations of their job as facilitators or advocates for social protection interventions as well as build networks and mutually share experiences for enhancing their personal and professional development

Some expected outcomes of the training are for participants to better appreciation of the social protection system, make useful inputs towards sound social protection interventions and have a deeper understanding of working relationships with other social protection functionaries.

Certificates will be awarded to participants at the end of the programme.
