ILGS 2020 Competency Enhancement and Career-Oriented Programmes

The ILGS has developed 10 thematic programme modules made up of 98 distinct courses for the continuous professional development of staff of the Local Government Service (LGS). Each of the programmes will have a menu of courses that is fit-for-purpose for the various professional classes clustered as follows:

  • >> Administrators;
  • >> Human Resource Managers;
  • >> Environmental Health and Sanitation Officers;
  • >> Finance, Budget and Rating Officers;
  • >> Planners (development and physical);
  • >> Engineers and;
  • >> Management Information System Officers.

Figure 1, depicts the trajectory for the Scheme of Service (SoS) Training Programmes for staff of the LGS. There are five (5) main categories of programmes. The target groups, estimated length of service for the staff group, the duration of the programmes and estimated cost for tuition which includes costs for snacks, lunch, training materials and binder of reading materials are presented in Figure 1.
